Tung Oil and Beeswax

Unpolymerized Tung Oil.  smells nutty.
Here's the extent of floor we've installed so far..  For now, just a small area where the kitchen is going. The rest of the floor will follow in time.

Bees Wax counter top experiment.  It was fun to melt and buff the wax here, but we're not pursuing this for counters, see next post for what we ARE doing.

Floor Sanding and Oiling (aka 'finishing')

Testing Finishes for the countertops.  Tung Oil VS. Mineral Oil.  They look the same.
Mineral Oil on the maple bowling lane countertop
Sanding..
Test sample of the pure tung oil on the flooring. I expect it do dry a little lighter than this, but not much.
In thinking of a title for this post, i was reluctant to use the word 'finishing', as we are very far away from anything actually being 'finished'.

Flooring: A Time Capsule

What happened to the kitchen!? - Flooring happened.
The newspaper is not necessary, but after that amazing find back during demo, i couldn't resist creating a time capsule.

Vancouver Olympics.

The Blackhawks Stanley Cup Victory of 2010, making the Leafs the team with the longest Stanley Cup drought.

The Bruins epic collapse losing 4 games in a row after being 3 Games up on Philly in the 2nd round of the playoffs!  Headline reads: Could have used Kessel!
I'm also included some news stories that aren't sports related. Some real estate, culture, finance, foreign affairs etc.  I wonder when this house will next be peeled apart?

Skylight!

The brightest stair well in East York!

Yes, this project took longer than expected, but that seems to be normal.. We really enjoy being able to see the moon from our stairs!  This space is so tall and narrow, you need to see it to appreciate the volume. Hopefully we don't need to clean the glass too often..

Skylight Process Pics

It's been a long time since the last post, so here's a juicy skylight post. Thanks to all who helped, it's nearly there, just some more mud and paint.

The space is so vertical now, that it's a bit hard to appreciate the whole volume from these photos. You'll have to come check it out in person!
